Black River Falls is located eight miles south of Ishpeming just off of CR 581. The Black River falls approximately 30′ through a cut in the bedrock. From what I understand, the falls are quite beautiful in the winter so this may be a site that you may wish to visit in the late season as well as the warmer months. I brought a fishing pole along to test the waters around the falls and did find Brook Trout which for me was a plus.
Accessing the falls is relatively easy. From the parking lot, you follow the trail for 150 yards or so to the head of the waterfall. On the river side of the bridge, there are a couple of grills for those who would like to picnic. Following the trail from the head of the falls downstream, there is a small bridge that leads to the base of the falls. Be forewarned, there is a fair amount of rubble at the foot of the falls and footing can be unstable.
In all, the Black River Falls is quite beautiful and easily accessed.
